A record-breaking 10th Australian Open title was all Novak Djokovic could hope for, in between his injury and the pro-Russian controversy regarding his father. The Serb won the match against Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets, despite facing some challenges from the Greek in the second and third sets.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion talked about his outburst during the match in his post-match conference. On Sunday, the Serbian had some harsh words and even worse stares for Goran Ivanisevic. He even targets the former World No. 2 from the other side of the court, as he won his 28th game in the tournament this year.

Djokovic could be seen shouting up at one point, asking for advice on how to improve, and seemed to be unhappy with the answer. When asked about the looks between Novak and Ivanisevic, he replied it was just “normal chatter“.

Just a normal chatter that we would normally have in the court where I was not comfortable and was looking for some help and some advice, some guidance. That’s all it is.” He further clarified that it was difficult to explain these situations were difficult to explain such situations to other people. While referring to his team, he said, “They tolerate a lot of things that I do to them, say to them, and I’m really grateful to have their presence and their support, just the way they are.”

Djokovic said that the biggest motivation in his career is the Grand Slam trophies he has won to date. He explained, “I never really liked comparing myself to others, but of course, it’s a privilege to be part of the discussion as one of the greatest players of all time.” Since the Serbian has always been compared to Rafael Nadal, he said that he was ‘flattered’ to be compared, as he puts as much effort as anybody else.

Ivanisevic, his coach, also said that Djokovic and Nadal are going to dominate the sport for a couple more years, even though the upcoming “new generation” of players is leading to more competition. Djokovic also assured everyone that his mental and physical health is up to the task in order to maintain his status in the game.

Djokovic feels this was the greatest match of his career. His struggle with his leg injury has been a big deterrent since his third-round match. The Serbian’s persistence and continuous therapy sessions ultimately helped him improve physically and win his 10th Australian Open title in Melbourne.
