The Former US Open Champion Daniil Medvedev seems to finally eradicate the demons he was facing constantly ever since his loss to the Spanish GOAT Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open Final 2022. The man of steel from Russia had a downfall in the rankings in addition to mediocre performances in the French Open and US open.

The Russian defeated the Canadian World No.19 Denis Shapovalov 4-6 6-3 6-2 in the finals here at Vienna and he didn’t confine the excitement of winning things off the court as well, “I’m gonna dedicate [this title] to my wife because she gave me the most beautiful present – my daughter”.

The dark days are over for the Russian as he and his wife Dasha welcomed their daughter less than a month ago and now on the court, he was able to clinch his first ATP-500 title this season at Vienna Open. This is only his second ATP title this season, the other was the ATP-250 Los Cabos Open title.

After the heartbreaking loss to Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open Final this year after leading by two sets, Medvedev has never been the same player as before. The deadliest backhands that stopped the mighty Novak Djokovic in US Open final in 2021 have declined since the loss to Nadal this year.

Nevertheless, he was coming back to his best in recent months but the pre-quarterfinal loss to Nick Kyrgios in US Open, 2022 again stopped his momentum. Following that, he recently got defeated by the Swiss Veteran Stanislas Wawrinka in the ATP-250 Metz Open in 3 sets in the first round.

All losses apart, he was dictating the play in the semi-finals against Novak Djokovic in ATP-500 Astana Open, a muscle strain got him down and he was forced to retire from the match. Medvedev was leading by a set and the second set was being played when he got the strain.

After that unfortunate event, Vienna Open was the first tournament he played. He started exactly from where he stopped at the Astana Open and now went to win the whole tournament. The former world number one has enjoyed a dominant week in Vienna, which includes a straight-sets victory over former rival Dominic Thiem in the second round.

The Russian produced tennis of the highest quality in a straight-sets victory over Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals. Then in the semi-finals, he defeated Grigor Dimitrov again in straights.

The final against the Canadian is the only match of the tournament where he lost his serve which eventually led to the loss of that set as well. The Russian is now ready to battle against anyone in the world with the gain of momentum he got in his favorite hunting ground -the indoor hard courts.
