Serena announced her imminent retirement from tennis recently, she made the statement saying that the US Open is going to be the final tournament of her career, the announcement left many fans across the globe heartbroken and emotional as everyone wants to see Serena in action for as long as possible.

Serena Williams kicked off her US Open campaign with a bang, she defeated Danka Kovinic in straight sets to make her way into the second round of the tournament. American professional Danielle Collins who also made her way into the second round of the US Open after defeating 4-time grand slam champion Naomi Osaka talked about the reception Serena Williams has been getting.

Collins said, “I think as everybody knows, I’ve idolized Serena and Venus my whole life, they’ve been people I’ve really looked up to. “This is such a big moment in our tennis history, I love how our sport celebrates our champions of the game. Hopefully, yeah, I don’t have to play Serena at some point because I’ll be so torn.

Collins won her game against Naomi Osaka by 7-6, 6-3 in straight sets as the American professional pulled off an upset of sorts as everyone had a lot of hopes that Osaka would use the US Open as a way to revive her season but that dream has been cut short as Collins has made her way into the second round of the tournament.

Serena Williams on the other hand also secured a comfortable win over Danka Kovinic in straight sets, she is scheduled to face Anett Kontaveit in the second round of the tournament.
