Britain’s No.1 Emma Raducanu dug deep to find a way past Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch to progress through to the quarterfinals in Stuttgart. It is a major achievement for the US Open champion to get to the last eight considering this was his first clay court tournament on tour. She eventually defeated Korpatsch 6-0, 2-6, 6-1 to set up a quarterfinal clash at the WTA Stuttgart Open.

Raducanu has had a tumultuous journey ever since she defeated Leylah Fernandez last year to lift the US Open title. Her career has not been the same as she has suffered some early round exits in events and was far away from the consistency that was required to sustain at this level. There were other issues as well like not living up to people’s expectations and all.

But the youngster is proud that ever since her US Open triumph, this is her second quarterfinals on tour and she feels it is a great progress for her as she wants to fight her way up to the top. She reached the quarterfinals at the Translyvania Open in October last year and there she was beaten by Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk. Despite the disappointment from the defeat, it was more about learning her potential as a player.

Speaking at the press conference, Raducanu shared how much the journey to the quarterfinals has been for her as this marks her second quarterfinals ever since she won the US Open last year. She said, “I feel like it is definitely an achievement for me because making the QFs of any WTA tournament last year would have been like, ‘This is the best thing ever.’”

“For me right now it is about improvement and seeing the development of my game. Results, I really could not care less right now because I have lost enough of first rounds to have thick skin and I really don’t care what happens results-wise. I just want to get better and I am definitely hungry to keep learning, developing and growing,” Raducanu added.
