After his 21st Grand Slam title and his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title, Novak Djokovic dropped to number 7 in the ATP rankings which is his lowest rank in four years. Daniil Medvedev retained his number one position on the top whereas the Serbian fell to number seven.

Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios in the finals of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships yesterday by 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). The ATP and the WTA announced that the results of the 2022 Wimbledon will not be affecting player ranks amidst the ban by the Grand Slam on Russian and Belarusian players due to Russia’s attempt to invade Ukraine that has started a war from 24th February 2022.

Users took to Twitter after Djokovic ranked down four ranks after winning Wimbledon, fans called it an ‘injustice’ and ‘completely unfair’, Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, and Carlos Alcaraz, all of them overtook Djokovic in the rankings as Andrey Rublev retained his eighth position.

Djokovic has consistently been one of the top three players in the world since the later stages of 2018 in context to the ATP rankings, also reaching the number one rankings by the end of 2018 despite suffering an injury in the early stages of the year. After the conclusion of the 2022 Wimbledon, Russian player Daniil Medvedev retained his number one position while the winner Djokovic lost four spots on the rankings.
