Former world No.1, Andy Murray suggests a few changes in the scheduling of night matches in the Australian Open 2023. After his exit from the Australian Open, Andy spoke at the press conference and addressed a few things. One of these is the late-night scheduling of the matches and the trouble it is causing for the players.

Murray played a marathon five-hour game in the second round of the ongoing Australian Open. He won against the local boy, Thanasi Kokkinakis in a five-setter thriller. However, both players were extremely tired by the end of the match. Murray went on to address this issue in the post-match interview, where he raised concerns about the timings of such matches. The match ended at 4 AM local time and questions were raised across the tennis world and by the fans.

Murray went on to speak about this issue once again after his third-round match. He said “I think the US Open went to playing two matches in the day session. That would stop the day matches running into the night session starting too late. I think that’s quite a simple one that you could look at. You’d still get quality matches during the day.”

Murray further added by saying “The people who bought ground passes would get to see more of the top players, which would be excellent for them. I think if you did that, you could also potentially bring the night sessions slightly earlier, as well, like 6:00 or 6:30. That time, those few hours, can make a difference to the players. I think that’s something that’s probably worth, yeah, considering moving forwards.”

End of a short and fantastic run for Andy Murray at Melbourne Park

Andy Murray‘s short but fantastic run in the Australian Open comes to an end. He lost against the Spaniard, Roberto Bautista Agut in a four-setter match 1-6, 7-6(9-7), 3-6, 4-6. As always Andy Murray did give his best but it was too late and he had injury concerns. Not to forget, he came into the third round after winning two five-setter matches against Matteo Berrettini and Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Coming into the major, many experts didn’t predict this 35-year-old will reach up to the third round. This is because he was put in a tougher draw since he came into the tournament unseeded. Murray exceeded all those expectations and played like his older self. However, if he gets to recover on time, he can be a serious contender for Wimbledon, if not Roland Garros.
