“Stopped training Rafa because…,” Toni Nadal reveals the reality behind his resignation from Rafael Nadal’s team
The 62-year-old revealed the real reason behind his decision to leave Rafael Nadal's coaching team.

Toni Nadal aka Uncle Toni has been known for his association with Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal. He coached the Spaniard for almost three decades and Nadal won several accolades under him. However, a few years back, Toni Nadal decided to give up on his role as the coach of one of the world’s best players. While the reasons were not as transparent back then, Toni Nadal has opened up on it now.
The 62-year-old has revealed why he left Nadal’s coaching team. Toni has said that he felt like doing so because his time with Rafael Nadal was over. He has revealed that he felt that Nadal needed someone else while he (Toni) could focus on other important assignments.
I stopped training Rafa because I considered that my stage was over, I understood that my nephew needed other things and that my contribution could go in another direction.Toni Nadal said to Huelva Informacion.
Notably, after giving up his job as Rafael Nadal’s coach, Toni Nadal has taken over as the head of the Rafael Nadal Academy.
Toni Nadal shares his views on current tennis
A very opinionated guy, Toni Nadal was also asked about his like or dislike for current level of tennis. The 62-year-old had no hesitation in expressing his views as he revealed that he does not like the level of tennis being played currently.
Toni Nadal flagged a lack of tactics as the reason behind his dislike for the current level of tennis. The Spanish coach said that the increased speed of the ball and court has left little room for tactics.
