The former World No. 1. Iga Swiatek has had a great season so far. She has won 57 matches and lost only 10. The Pole also emerged victorious at the French Open this year. The World No. 2 had a disappointing summer hardcourt season, losing in the semi-finals of both WTA 1000 tournaments in Cincinnati and Montreal. She also suffered a fourth-round exit at the recently concluded US Open tournament. The tennis star was defeated by Jelena Ostapenko in three sets. She will now be looking to redeem herself in Japan.

On the other hand, Veronika Kudermetova suffered six losses out of her last eight matches before she arrived in Japan for the Pan Pacific Open. The Russian was ranked as high as No.9 last year. However, she has struggled to maintain her form this year. Her last good performance was at the Libema Open in June where she was the runner-up.
