Iga Swiatek was in total demolition mode on Thursday against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the Italian Open round of 64. She double-bageled Anastasia and won the match with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Iga gave an immortal performance which left little no room to recover for the Russian player.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, a Roland Garros finalist in 2021, struggled to land her finishing shots consistently. She committed a lot of unforced errors. Though Anastasia saw a glimmer of hope when her only break point came at 4-0 in the first set, she couldn’t convert. At 5-0, on Pavlyuchenkova’s serve, she led 40-0 over Iga, but Swiatek’s return game was so strong that she took away the game from Anastasia.
Iga Swiatek once again joined the esteemed list of players who have won matches with double bagels. The match lasted for only 67 minutes and Anastasia couldn’t wait to get out of the court. The net handshake with Iga Swiatek was very quick and effective and soon Anastasia got off the court. Iga Swiatek will meet Lesia Tsurenko, in the round of 32. With Aryna Sabalenka pushed out of the tournament by Sofia Kenin, Iga’s chances of winning the tournament are more solid. This performance has especially boosted the confidence of the 21-year-old.

Iga Swiatek fans extremely excited about her performance
The Iga Swiatek fandom increased manifold by this performance. A lot of Twitteratis joked about how Iga Swiatek has opened her own bakery shop in Rome. Comparing the 6-0, 6-0 to not just bagels, fans compared the 0 scores to donuts too.
Almost all fans were completely mesmerized by what Iga produced.
And there were also some Tennis fans who sympathized with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The player has come back from injury and is currently more of a doubles player. Twitter thought that fans should cut Anastasia some slack.
Some fans were worried about why there were not many people watching this amazing spectacle by Iga. They felt this performance on the court definitely deserved a larger audience than that was present.
Iga Swiatek looks quite focused and determined in her matches. Her razor-sharp returns are proving to be her most devastating weapon. There is more to come on clay for her, at Rome and then later at Roland Garros.
