Spanish tennis player and current World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has reached the finals of the ATP 500 at the Queen’s Club Championships, after defeating American Sebastian Korda 6-3, 6-4. This will be the Spaniard’s first grass court final, and tennis fans have been all praises for the 20-year-old’s performance on grass so far. The top seed will face Australian No. 1 and 7th seed Alex de Minaur in the final.

Interestingly, Novak Djokovic has decided not to compete in any grass court event leading up to Wimbledon. Alcaraz now has a chance to dethrone Djokovic as World No. 1 if he wins the tournament here at Queen’s.

Alcaraz confessed that being the No. 1 player going into Wimbledon and being seeded first at the championships seems an exciting prospect for him. “Being the top seed at the Wimbledon is a dream and it is something that is on my mind now. I am going to go for it,” said Alcaraz.

Tennis pundits and fans alike lauded his semi-final match against Korda as his best match on the surface. Alcaraz dominated Korda over the entire match, with his heavy groundstrokes mixed up with deceptive drop shots. Korda never really managed to secure a lead, being a breakdown early in both sets, leading to a rather comfortable victory for Alcaraz.

Notably, the loss comes to Korda right after making the bold claim that he considers himself the favorite for Wimbledon.

The upcoming final in Queen’s in Alcaraz’s sixth final of the season and winning this title would make his season all the more incredible, with titles on all three surfaces. Fans on Twitter were quick to note his achievement and react to it.

With this win, fans speculate that Alcaraz could come across as a tough opponent for Djokovic, who is eyeing a fifth consecutive title at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz will play de Minaur in the final in the hope to emulate fellow Spaniards Rafael Nadal (2008) and Feliciano Lopez (2017 and 2019) who have won the title here previously. If he wins the title here, he will surely be among the favorites to win a Grand Slam title at the upcoming Wimbledon championship.
