Novak Djokovic had made it to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Italian Open after defeating Cameron Norrie in the round of 16. Norrie’s actions during the match were unique; he smashed the mashed ball at Novak’s foot during the second set. Cameron Norrie was constantly fist-bumping after every point, and to top it all off, Cameron Norrie took a medical timeout right before the last game of the match.

The Serbian player was not happy with Cameron Norrie’s antiques. Novak knew that Cameron Norrie was just trying to get into his head to score more points, but Novak Djokovic made sure to express his disapproval in the post-match interview. Cameron Norrie did apologize immediately after smashing the ball at Novak Djokovic’s foot. However, it did not stop Novak Djokovic from talking about it.

“It was maybe a combination of things, from the very beginning he was doing things that were allowed. He’s allowed to take a medical timeout, he’s allowed to hit a player. He’s allowed to shout ‘Come on’ in the face on more or less every single point…”;” He brought the fire, and I responded. I’m not going to allow someone behaving like that to bend my head. I’m going to respond.”, said Novak Djokovic.

He also added that he does get along with Cameron Norrie and that he is a great person off-court. Novak Djokovic expressed that Cameron Norrie did things that were technically allowed, but players don’t treat each other in such a way. Fans are pointing out that the player should not complain this much as it was all mind games from Cameron Norrie’s side. That’s not all, his calm demeanor was almost broken as he continued to speak about Cameron Norrie’s actions in great detail.

Fans are bashing Novak Djokovic for calling out Cameron Norrie’s medical timeout. It is allowed and it was completely fair. Cameron Norrie chose to take the timeout and Novak Djokovic should just have respected it instead of talking too much about its timing. Novak Djokovic won the match and he clearly knew it was just mind games. Cameron Norrie opted for a different approach and even former world No.1 Andy Roddick feels that Cameron Norrie did nothing wrong.
