“Rafael is going to go,” During what might be Rafael Nadal’s “last year on tour”, uncle Toni Nadal makes a cryptic retirement statement

Rafael Nadal returned to professional tennis in the Brisbane International. After missing almost a year due to injury, the Spaniard was back in action in the Round of 16 match against Jason Kubler.
Rafa dominated the World No.97 throughout the match as he beat him in straight sets to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International. Amidst these comebacks, there have been rumors that the 2024 season is going to be Rafa’s last professional tennis season.
Rafa’s uncle Toni Nadal has opened up about the Spaniard’s comeback to the sport as well as his future. In the microphones of Onda Cero Mallorca, the Spaniard said,
Rafa can be very happy because the level he is showing is good enough. It is an exciting start, but we have to see him in more difficult games. At the moment, things are going almost better than we expected.Toni Nadal (H/T: Marca)
Toni has watched the progress of Rafa very closely, as he has been his coach for a prolonged period. Besides, he is also the director of Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy. Toni also opened up during his interview regarding Rafa’s future in the sport. He said,
I think Rafael is going to go day by day, depending on how things are going, depending on how competitive he is, the results… Although he said that this may be his last year, then we have to see how it goes.
Rafael Nadal produces a smashing comeback after his return to the court
There were always doubts regarding the shape and momentum with which Rafa was going to make the comeback. However, after the two matches in the Brisbane International, it is pretty clear that Rafa is quite fit and is hungrier than ever to win. He will be taking on Jordan Thompson in the quarterfinals of the tournament on January 5.
The Brisbane International will just be a good practice ground for him before the mega event of the Australian Open starting on 14th January. With this most probably being his last professional tennis season, Rafa would be looking to go big at Melbourne Park.
However, Rafa would have several challenges ahead of him. To get his hands on the trophy he would have to face tougher resilience especially, the defending champion Novak Djokovic.
