World no.2 and one of the favorites for the US Open title Aryna Sabalenka is set to face the French pro Clara Burel in the third round of US Open 2023 on Sunday. The Belarusian pro is playing for her second Grand Slam title and the No.1 spot. Sabalenka has to equal or better Iga Swiatek‘s performance at the US Open to clinch the No.1 spot.

The 22-year-old Frenchwoman is making her 2nd third round appearance at the US Open. Burel defeated the 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina before being defeated by her Sunday opponent Sabalenka in the third round. The world no.61 will look forward to reversing the result from last year to make her first Grand Slam 4th round appearance.

Aryna Sabalenka, US Open semi-finalist in 2021 and 2022, has started the 2023 edition in a convincing fashion. The no.2 seed won her first and second-round match in straight sets with the same score-line. Sabalenka def. Brit pro-Jodie Anna Burrage 6-3,6-2 in her second round match. The 25-year-old put on a serve clinic, hitting 7 aces and winning a whopping 93% points on her first serve.

The Australian Open champion leads the WTA players in hitting winners with 624 winners to her name. 28 of them came in her second-round win. Sabalenka is now 46-10 for the year, her 19-2 Grand Slam record is the best among women players.

Meanwhile, Clara Burel put on a scintillating performance to upset the 25th seed Karolina Pliskova in straight sets(6-4,6-2).

This will be the second encounter between the pair. Their first head-to-head came at the same tournament and same stage last year.
