Carlos Alcaraz vs. Daniil Medvedev : Match Preview

During the match with Alexander Zverev, Alcaraz faced two break points but saved both for a hold to make it 4-3 in the first set.  He then broke Zverev’s serve in the next game to go 5-3 up and then served out the set with ease.

In the second set, Alcaraz was even more dominant, breaking his opponent’s serve twice to seal the victory. In the third set, his level dropped slightly, but Zverev was unable to capitalize on it. The Spaniard won the final three games of the match to win 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Medvedev advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Attila Balazs, Christopher O’Connell, Sebastian Baez, and Alex de Minaur. He then met Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals. The former World No. 1 fell behind 3-0 in the first set but rallied to win six of the next seven games.

Medvedev was on the back foot once more in the second set, down 3-1. He did, though, turn the tables on Rublev once more, winning the set in five straight games. The third set unfolded in the same manner, with Medvedev coming from behind again after trailing 4-2. He won the following four games to win the match 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

Alcaraz and Medvedev have met twice this season, with the former winning both times in straight sets. On the first occasion, in the final of the Indian Wells Masters, the Spaniard ended the Russian’s 19-match winning streak. Recently, Alcaraz upset Medvedev in the Wimbledon semifinals en route to capturing the title.

The 20-year-old’s versatility, anticipation, footwork, and creative shotmaking enable him to penetrate the Russian defense. Over the last few years, the two of them have won the crown in New York. This match may be more competitive than their past encounters, but the outcome is expected to be the same, with Alcaraz triumphant.
