Daniil Medvedev will face Sebastian Baez in the third round of the US Open. The Russian has had a comfortable journey so far in the tournament, dropping just one set against Christopher O’Connell in the second round. Sebastian Baez on the other hand got handed over a walkover by his opponent in the previous round.

Post his second round match Medvedev said, “Tough match. I don’t know why, but one moment in the match he decided to play better.” He expressed his satisfaction in still being able to hang in there and utilize his opportunities successfully.

World No. 3 had a dicey match. After dominating the first two sets, a double fault by the Russian awarded the third set to Christopher O’Connell. However, he was quick to get back up and dominate the 4th set, winning the match 6-2, 6-2, 6(6), 7(8), 6-2.

Baez, in his second round, lost the opening set in a tiebreak and won the next two easily. However, in the fourth set, Baez was fortunate enough to be handed a walkover by Felipe Alves. His highlight in this tournament so far was defeating Borna Coric in straight sets in the first round of the tournament.

These two have not faced each other before, so it will be an exciting exchange between them. It will be interesting to see Baez play against one of the best hard-court serve players on the Tour. Baez is more of a clay court player, and Medvedev should be able to pull off a comfortable victory and move ahead into the later stages of one of his favorite matches.
