Elena Rybakina vs. Ajla Tomljanovic: Match Preview

The former Wimbledon champion had faced World No. 39 Marta Kostyuk in the first round. She had recently lost to her at the Adelaide International 1 in January. However, she managed to avenge herself in this match.

Rybakina clinched the opening set by breaking Kostyuk’s serve three times and only getting broken once. She further improved her game by dishing out a breadstick in the second set. She won the match 6-2, 6-1. Earlier, there were alarms regarding Rybakina’s injuries. Fortunately, there seemed to be no sign of an injury bothering her. She made 21 unforced errors in comparison to her 26 wins.

Tomljanovic’s first round of the US Open was also her first match of the season. She had taken a hiatus due to her injury but managed to earn a victory as soon as she was back. The Australian took on Panna Udvardy in the first round. She started off weak, being broken seven times out of the nine games played. Udvardy claimed the set.

However, Tomljanovic made a powerful comeback by winning the second set and pushing the match to a decider. She was down 2-0 in the third set but finished off the match with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Rybakina seems to be in prime form this season. She has given some of her best performances this year.
