World no.1 and defending champion at the 2023 US Open, Iga Swiatek will be up against Slovenian Kaja Juvan on Friday (1 September). The Pole has had no issues in beating her opponents in the first two rounds. Meanwhile, Juvan has come a long way considering she played three rounds in the Qualifiers as well. Iga Swiatek has started her title defense in New York in a stunning fashion as the Polish ace won her first two matches of the main draw in straight sets. She took down Rebecca Peterson and Daria Saville in the first and second rounds respectively. While Swiatek defeated Peterson 6-0, 6-1 in just 58 minutes, the Pole ousted Daria Saville 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 34 minutes.

Kaja Juvan, on the other hand, faced Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Lauren Davis in her first and second rounds respectively. While the Slovenian defeated Cocciaretto in straight sets of 6-2, 7-5, Juvan had to fight her way up against Lauren Davis. The American was not easy to beat as Davis took the opening set in a tiebreaker. However, Juvan was determined to win the match and made a comeback, winning the second set 6-4. In the decider, she bettered her performance and won it 6-3.

Now, with Iga Swiatek on the opposite side of the net, Kaja Juvan will have an uphill task. The youngster will hope to challenge the Pole ace as much as possible. Swiatek, meanwhile, would want to continue the momentum and ease past the Slovenian.
