Former World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will face off against Ben Shelton in the semifinals of the 2023 US Open on Friday. Djokovic knocked out Alexandre Muller, Bernabe Zapara Mirrales, Laslo Djere and Borna Gojo to meet and defeat Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals. Shelton won over Pedro Cachin, Dominic Thiem, Aslan Karatsev and Tommy Paul to reach the last eight, where he ousted Frances Tiafoe.

In his match against Fritz, Djokovic won the second set with a single break of serve. He broke first in the third set to go up 4-3, but Fritz broke back to tie the game. The 36-year-old took another break to lead 5-4 and then served out the match in the next game to win 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

Tiafoe rallied by winning the second set to tie the game. Both players struggled to hold serve in the third set, with six breaks of serve between them. The set was eventually decided in a tie-break, with Shelton rallying after dropping a couple of set points to win the set. Shelton began the fourth set with a break of serve. He kept his cool and broke his opponent’s serve once again, winning the match 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2.
