Day 7 at the 2023 US Open is all set to kick off on Sunday, September 3. Top seeds including 23 Grand Slam singles winner, Novak Djokovic, America’s fan-favorite Coco Gauff, and defending champion Iga Swiatek amongst others, will be looking forward to making a spot in the Quarter-finals at the Flushing Meadows.
Novak Djokovic made it to the fourth round after surviving a scare against fellow Serbian Laslo Djere. He later described their encounter as one of the toughest matches he has played. The Serb is hoping for an easier fourth round against Croatian qualifier, Borna Gojo. Sixth seed Coco Gauff will be up against former champ, Caroline Wozniacki for a place in the round of 8 at the women’s singles event. World No. 9, Taylor Fritz will lock horns with Swiss tennis player Dominic Stricker.
In the women’s draw, World No.1, Iga Swiatek will be across the net from 20th seed, Jelena Ostapenko. Their clash is going to be worth the watch since in the three times the duo has played each other, the 22-year-old has suffered defeat on all three occasions. Their head-to-head will take place at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday. The last time the two had clashed on-court was in Dubai last year. It remains the only match where Swiatek managed to win a set against the Latvian.
Some other notable faces to look out for on Sunday are fourteenth seed, Tommy Paul, and tenth seed Frances Tiafoe, who will compete in the Men’s Singles event.
