World No. 6 Coco Gauff is set to face Russian pro Mirra Andreeva in the second round of the US Open 2023 on Wednesday. The American teen sensation will be looking forward to winning her first Grand Slam title at her home Grand Slam. 

The 6th seed had her highest Grand Slam finish at the US Open 2022, reaching the quarterfinal. Her opponent for the game, the 16-year-old Russian, is making her first main-draw appearance at the US Open this year.

The 6th seed Coco Gauff heads into the tournament on the back of a successful North American hard-court swing. Gauff won the Washington Open earlier this month, beating Maria Sakkari in the final. It was her first WTA 500 singles title. The American followed it up with her first WTA 1000 title at the Cincinnati Masters. This was her biggest singles title to date.

Mirra Andreeva boasts a decent singles career record of 69-15. The Russian teen reached the 4th Round at Wimbledon earlier this year, becoming the youngest player since Coco Gauff to reach this milestone at the All-England Club. Subsequently, she moved into the top 70 in the rankings. 

In her first-round match, Coco Gauff defeated Laura Siegemund 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. On the other hand, Mirra Andreeva rebounded from a sluggish early start to make her way to the second round, disposing of Gadecki 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in an evening match on Court 8.

The teens faced each other in the third round of the French Open earlier this year. Gauff emerged victorious in three sits winning the match 6-7,6-1,6-1.

The 6th seed Coco Gauff carries a lot of experience heading into the game compared to her 16-year old opponent. On the back of her form heading into the US Open Gauff will expect that she moves into the third round without any hiccups.

Meanwhile, Andreeva, albeit inexperienced, knows she’s heading into the match as an underdog, which might help ease some pressure. The match could be a close affair if Andreeva brings her fearless attitude, but Gauff will be a huge favorite, and anything but a Gauff win will be a huge surprise.
