The Golf league backed by Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy is reported to have their first team sold to Venus Williams and Serena Williams. The founder of Reddit and Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian has announced the same. TGL (The Golf League) is expected to be a celebrity league in America with the entry of tennis icons- Serena and Venus.

Terms of the deal were not completely disclosed, but it is reported that the teams will have an equity stake of 3% from the league itself. There will be six teams competing in the first edition. Each team is required to have a controlling owner who must be having at least 51% shares from voting and 33.3% equity in the team. Ohanian is reported to be the controlling owner of the Williams team.

Serena Williams and Ohanian revealed the branding of their team last Thursday with a promo video and previews of merchandise. With the involvement of one of the biggest icons of American sports history, the inaugural edition of the Golf league is expected to make a huge impact in the sports business, per Forbes.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams was not much outgoing after retiring from the Sport in September 2022 during the US Open. It is reported that she is spending much of her time with the family without attending many public functions and TV shows.

There was a time in sports when the Williams sisters of Venus and Serena dominated both the singles events and doubles events at the same time. Venus Williams, who is yet to retire from the sport, has won 7 Grand Slam titles in singles. This iconic duo has played in four consecutive Grand Slam finals from the French Open in 2002 to the Australian Open in 2003. Serena was able to win all those 4 matches.

With the involvement of the Williams sisters in other sporting events like Golf, it will be interesting to see whether Venus also will retire from the sport soon and join her sister in more public events and sporting competitions.
