Serena Williams and Venus Williams’ former coach Rick Macci has recalled his first meeting with their father Richard Williams and how the latter made him feel like Macci was in a deposition. Macci remembered that Richard came to meet him with around 75 questions listed on a paper. He then grilled Macci an extra double crispy.
Macci took to X (formerly Twitter) to talk about his first meeting with Richard Williams who worked closely with his daughters throughout their careers. The American coach said that the attitude of Richard Williams developed a sense of respect inside him.
When we first met May 1991 in Compton Richard pulled out a yellow piece of notebook paper with at least 75 questions and Grilled Me Extra Double Crispy like I WAS IN A DEPOSITION.I actually REALLY Respected this father right from that moment.Rick Macci wrote on X.

Macci and Papa Williams worked together for years and helped Serena and Venus achieve what they have in their careers. While they grinded it out on the court, Richard and Macci worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Working for so long, obviously, they became friends.
While there was not much out in the public about Richard and Macci’s friendship, the movie King Richard, starring Will Smith did open some gates. Many got to know how Richard Williams always kept Macci on the edge. However, there were a few things that the movie also missed but Macci did not forget to talk about them.
The American coach during an interview with Esquire after the release of the movie, revealed how notorious Richard was. Macci shared an anecdote where Richard called him at midnight asking him to come over to his house fearing that someone would kill him. It then turned out to be a test for Macci.
So one night Richard, when they came to Greenleaf, he calls me up a 11:00 at night. He goes, 'Rick, you got to get over here.' I said, 'Richard, you just woke me up. What's up?' He goes, 'I think someone's going to kill me. There's a car out in front of our condo, and you got to come over here.'...'You ready for this? He goes, 'Hey Rick, I'm just kidding you. I just wanted to see how much you cared about our family. Love you, man. I'll see you in the morning.'Rick Macci revealed.
So, considering how Richard Williams kept Macci on the edge, his coming up with a list with 75 questions and making Macci feel like he was in deposition would have worked as a sneak peek into what the American coach was going to deal with in the coming years.
