The tennis world gears for a whole month of action as the Tour heads to the USA for the much-awaited Sunshine Double. The Indian Wells precedes the Miami Open, as many players gear up for the tournament commonly known as the fifth Slam. 

Even the Miami Open attracts a star-studded draw, as they award wildcard entries to four tennis professionals. British youngster Emma Raducanu is another wildcard entry into the tournament; she hasn’t played since the Qatar Open loss against Anhelina Kalinina

She receives a major pass despite the uncertainty revolving around her return to Indian Wells. However, interestingly enough, she is just one of the major players to get a wildcard entry, as even the legendary Venus Williams receives one.

The 43-year-old makes her way back to tennis after being sidelined due to a knee injury. The American had previously promised to return to the US stage of the Tour. 

Both of these players join Caroline Wozniacki, who has also received an entry after her recent comeback to tennis. For the uninitiated, the Dane returned from retirement to continue playing and joined a few other returning stars in one of the biggest WTA tournaments of the season.

34-year-old Kei Nishikori also gets a wildcard entry to the Miami Open after an injury layoff since July 2023

Japanese pro Kei Nishikori also gets a wildcard entry into 2024 after an injury layoff in July 2023. Once a top-4 player, the Japanese pro makes a return after a year in Miami. Along with this, Nishikori also became the first male Asian to be a finalist in the US Open in 2014.

He joins Wozniacki, Williams, and Raducanu in the list of wildcard entries as the excitement around the Miami Open increases rapidly. The tournament is set to begin on the 17th of March, right after the Indian Wells, so the players get minimal rest before the two tournaments. 

These are two of the most prestigious Masters 1000 tournaments, which offer many points for the winner. As the year progresses, the players have to gain a few points to rise in the rankings, and these two tournaments present a good chance for them to do so.
