Venus Williams hails Serena Williams as the greatest ever, opens up on being each other’s motivation in their success

Serena Williams, the former world number one has officially retired from the professional world of tennis and played her farewell match at the 2022 US Open. She is hailed as one of the greatest athletes in the world who has been one of the flagbearers of popularizing women’s tennis inspiring millions of people around the world. She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles in her illustrious career, the most by a player in the Open era.
Venus Williams, the 7-time Grand Slam champion credited her sister Serena for being a great inspiration and motivating her to do well during an interview with GLAMOUR magazine. She even stated about both depending on each other and striving for each other’s success while both sisters always loved to do the same thing together since they were young.
Venus said that “Serena and I are very co-dependent. We do the same thing that the other one does. It just goes on and on, it’s an endless cycle – even when we were around eight years old and going like, ‘I want to do it, too!’ But it’s more of a motivation and when I see her doing great, it’s my success.“

Venus Williams further added that “It’s also motivating for me and lets me know I also can do that, and that’s how you have to look at other people’s success. I love seeing people do great. I don’t like to see anyone fail. I like to see my opponents lose against me, but other than that I like to ride that energy that other people bring with success. Serena has taught me so much and there’s so much you can learn just from being around greatness and that’s what she is – the greatest ever.“
Venus Williams and Serena Williams are an undefeated pair in the finals of the Grand Slam tournaments who have won together 14 doubles Grand Slam titles and three Olympic gold medals. Serena played her final doubles match along with Venus Williams at the US Open but lost the match and it was the last time both played together since Serena retired after losing her third-round singles match against Ajla Tomljanovic despite having a great start to the final tournament of her career.
