The Wimbledon quarterfinal match between Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev caught the attention of 5 – time Wimbledon Champion Venus Williams. In that match, despite losing the first set, Djokovic managed to make a comeback and win the match in four sets. However, it wasn’t just his victory that impressed Williams, but a particular moment during the match that showcased Djokovic’s remarkable athleticism.
In the second set of the match, Djokovic chased down a drop shot from Rublev. He managed to reach the ball just in time, but with momentum still carrying him forward, he took a tumble on the grass. Djokovic, however, managed to roll and get back on his feet without any harm.
Djokovic displayed remarkable athleticism to win the point and eventually the match against Rublev. Williams took to Instagram to express her admiration for the Serb’s game. “I need to learn how to fall without hurting myself,” Williams posted on her Instagram story.
Despite losing the first set and facing the threat of an early exit from the tournament, Djokovic quickly bounced back and won the following three sets, securing his place in the Wimbledon semifinals for the 12th time in his career.
Novak Djokovic will face Italian Jannik Sinner in Semifinal
In the semifinals, Novak Djokovic will face Jannik Sinner, who is playing in his first Grand Slam semifinal. Djokovic has a 3-0 record against Sinner, but their last meeting at Wimbledon in 2022 was a five-set thriller. Djokovic managed to come back from two sets down to win the match, but Sinner put up a tough fight.
Sinner has acknowledged the challenge of facing Djokovic in the semifinals, but he is confident in his abilities. In a press conference, Sinner said, “Yeah, it’s for sure one of the toughest, if not the toughest, challenge in front of me if Novak wins today because, as I said before, it’s a Grand Slam. It is a very, very important round, semifinals. He has won 23 Grand Slams. Won Australia, won Paris. He is in a huge confidence boost also.”
If Djokovic wins their semifinal encounter yet again, we might get to see him face top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the final, continuing their saga from the French Open quarterfinals. Alcaraz, however, will have to overcome Daniil Medvedev for that to be possible.
With his dominant display so far, Djokovic seems to be the favorite for his semifinal match against Sinner and to win the title eventually.
