American tennis legend Venus Williams is missing her time on the tennis court with her doubles partner and sister Serena Williams. The 43-year-old talked about it on her social media as she watched Alycia Parks compete in the 2024 Miami Open women’s doubles semifinal.
As Parks and her partner Asia Muhammad took on Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski in the doubles semifinal on Friday, Williams shared a story on Instagram. She posted a short clip wherein she showed herself watching the match and then the 43-year-old talked about missing her time on court with Serena.
I’m sitting here watching Asia Muhammad and Alycia Parks. And I miss playing doubles with my partner [Serena Williams] up there. But do we now play net chords in doubles? And did I just not know that?Venus Williams could be heard saying in the video.
Notably, the Williams sisters last played a match together at the 2022 US Open where the pair bowed out after losing to the Czech duo of Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova. While Serena retired from the tour after that tournament, Williams is still competing on the tour.
End of the road for Venus Williams?
While Venus Williams is missing playing doubles with her sister Serena Williams, the American ace is not doing well in singles either. The 43-year-old made a comeback to the tour after a long injury layoff with the Indian Wells Open. However, it did not last long as Venus was knocked out after a defeat in the opening round.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion then competed at the Miami Open but nothing changed. Williams faced another first-round exit as compatriot Diana Shnaider beat her in straight sets. Now, as Venus’ ultimate goal for the 2024 season– to compete at the Sunshine Double is over, the question of what lies ahead arises.
The 43-year-old has not said anything about her future course of action. For now, the American ace seems to be enjoying time off the court after an early exit. It will be interesting to see if Williams tries her luck on clay or if she will pick and choose to play in hard-court tournaments.
