An absolute legend of the game, Venus Williams had seen it all during all these years of her playing career and she is nearly at the end of the road. The fans hope for the star to return to the doubles segment at least once. She has already made it clear in the past that her doubles career was finished after her longtime partner on the court and sister, Serena Williams retired from the sport.
In a recent video posted by Venus on her channel, she was answering all the questions that were posted by her fans on Instagram. Amidst all the questions, one question popped up which involved Reilly Opelka. Opelka was rumored to be dating Venus after their recent involvement in each other’s posts on Instagram. Both of the stars seem to be liking each other’s posts and showering their love towards one another. The question was regarding Venus’s plans on playing doubles tennis with Opelka at the upcoming US Open.
But no one has spoken about these rumors clearly and this time Venus answered the question very carefully not revealing too much. She said, “It’s a long way away, it’d be two big serves and that’d be a lot of fun but you know I think Reilly should focus on the singles and I’m actually retired in doubles. I keep saying it and no one believes me but I’ve seen the mountaintop, played with the best, I’ve played with Serena, it doesn’t get much better than that.”
The impact that Serena and Venus Williams have left in the doubles segment
Venus Williams and Serena Williams, who have had a big impact on the sport dominating several players in the singles segment right from their teenage years began their dream to conquer the doubles department as well way back in 1998 when they lifted the USTA Challenger. The tournament was held in Oklahoma City and the sisters beat the duo of Kristine Kunce and Catalina Cristea to mark their first-ever doubles success.
But their dream of capturing the world was not short-lived as they went on to win 22 Doubles titles together among which picked up three Olympic Gold medals as well in the years 2000, 2008, and 2012.
They also won 14 Grand Slam titles with 6 Wimbledon titles, 2 US Open titles, 2 French Open titles, and lastly 4 Australian Open titles. Their last major success was at the 2016 Wimbledon Championships when they beat Yaroslava Shvedova and Tímea Babos.
