An old interview with tennis ace Venus Williams went viral after the trailer of Zendaya‘s movie ‘Challenger‘ was released. Though Zendaya received immense praise for her performance, her forehand shots received backlash as fans started mocking her.
At first, fans thought Williams made the comment on Zendaya but in truth, she roasted the movie Wimbledon, starring Kristen Dunst and Paul Bettany. Williams said how in that movie, though the girl did work hard, she took a couple of off days to fall in love. The five-time Wimbledon champion said that a bagel (6-0) is better for her than falling in love.
“You can see they just can’t play, but those girls worked hard. I watched the movie, Wimbledon. The girl takes two days off to fall in love, I’m thinking, ‘I didn’t take a day off at Wimbledon’. I don’t want to fall in love, 6-love works for me,” she had said this once.
Venus Williams received a wild card for Wimbledon
Wimbledon recently released the names of the players who got the wild card and Venus Williams is one of them. The prestigious tournament will kick start on July 3 at the All-England Club. Williams recently played her first match since January this year. At the Libema Open, she fell to Celine Naef 3-6, 7-6(7-3) but not without producing a tough fight.
The 43-year-old then went past Camila Giorgi in a hard-fought match with a score of 7-6(7-5), 4-6, 7-6(8-6). However, her advancement to the quarterfinal was restricted by Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets 6-3, 5-7, 3-6.
This Wimbledon in all possibilities will be her last one. It will be her 24th appearance at the SW19. She has been the champion here in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, and 2008, and finished as a runner-up four times, in 2002, 2003, 2009, and 2017. The American last appeared at this tournament back in 2021 and has a 90-18 win-loss record here.
“The best news is I walked off the court yesterday not hurt and not even sore after a long match and a string of really challenging injuries which means I have a chance to build on yesterday’s performance in my next events,” Williams wrote on her Instagram after her first-round defeat at the Libema Open. “It’s not easy to continue to come back after unexpected injuries and delays but that’s life and I love what I do and I believe in what I am doing.”
