Venus Williams pens an emotional note after injuring herself at Wimbledon as she dwells on her immediate future

Venus Williams suffered a heartbreaking loss against Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in straight sets in the first round of Wimbledon. During the match, the 43-year-old slipped on the grass on the Centre Court and clutched her already strapped-up right knee in pain.
Venus was then given treatment for the knee. However, despite the tough loss in the opening round, she posted an optimistic post on her official Instagram handle, penning down emotional thoughts about how she felt about the match.
Venus got emotional about her current physical state and even opened up about retirement. As per the tennis professional herself, retirement might happen in the near future. She played with an injured knee, which was strapped up during her first-round match. Her sister Serena Williams retired last year, in September 2022.
That’s not all; Venus even received a standing ovation from the London crowd as she left the court, despite her being upset at the umpire.
She wrote, “I’m happy I can look back at this moment and see I smiled. I felt like crying. But as an fyi I didn’t cry. I don’t have time for crying when I’m trying to get to the next level. I sat in the locker room right after thinking…to figure out what I could learn from this and plotting how I was going to be better. I believe in less time crying and more time working.“

Venus posted a positive and optimistic post on her Instagram after the match, eliciting a plethora of reactions online. As per the American tennis sensation, she is not sure how she managed to smile after everything that happened, and she doesn’t remember her face being this pleasant.
In fact, it felt quite the opposite. Moreover, she felt everything was slipping away from her. She further continued by adding that she felt disappointed in herself for not pulling out of the match after her fall on the Centre Court.
After the match, she went into the locker room and contemplated what exactly went wrong and how she was going to get better. Venus lastly added that life is all about winning and losing, and you can’t really get too upset with one loss. As per the tennis great herself, try to be a good sportsperson at that moment and allow your opponent to enjoy their moment.
