Tennis legend Venus Williams shared an upsetting incident that took place during one of her practice matches today. The 7-time singles Grand Slam winner took to Instagram to share the story with her fans, where she revealed that she got incredibly upset during a practice session and ripped her skirt out of anger.
She said that today’s incident reminded her about the resilience that sports give the athletes and they learn something new every day.
I ripped my skirt at practice today because I got incredibly upset, but I came out stronger. Sometimes you have to do it the hard way. Sometimes I forget how much resilience sports gives you. The practice courts are a intense place! It's funny now but I was not laughing at the time. I keep learning so much from this sport, about life and about myself. Sport is the greatest teacher!Venus Williams wrote on her Instagram story

The 43-year-old recently participated in the 2024 Indian Wells as a wildcard entry. This was her first tournament after the 2023 US Open, and it was definitely not the kind of comeback that she was expecting. Venus Williams lost to Japan’s Nao Hibino in the first round itself and crashed out of the tournament.

She won the first set convincingly but could not keep the momentum going in the remainder of the match, which allowed Hibino to make a comeback. The Japanese ended up winning the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Venus Williams will now shift her focus to the 2024 Miami Open
Now that her stint in the Indian Wells is over, Williams has already shifted her focus to the upcoming Miami Open. About a month ago, Williams, Emma Raducanu and Kei Nishikori were awarded wildcard entries into the tournament that will take place from March 17-31 at the historic Hard Rock Stadium.

About a month ago, Williams had said that one of her biggest targets was to take part in the Sunshine Doubles in 2024, having missed the Indian Wells and the Miami Open for the past four years due to several reasons.
It's a long time. ... It's a lot of years not to play at home. So that's of course one of my big goals on the horizon, is to be there, prepare to do that.Williams via her YouTube channel
It’s good to see that her goal is finally set to be achieved in a few days when she kicks off her Miami Open campaign. She has won the Miami Open title three times – in 1998, 1999 and 2001 respectively. Taking part in the ATP 1000 will thus bring back a few great memories for the legend.
