Tennis legend Venus Williams admitted that she has enjoyed players venting out their frustration on the court, smashing their rackets, especially when it is her on the other side of the court.

I love to see someone smash their racquet, especially against me. It’s like, ‘Oh, just come, go ahead, go come undone, just unravel’, and it’s like this is all my doing and I am like I am the puppet master. You know, like I am Geppetto“, says Venus Williams on her YouTube channel.

Geppetto is a kindly, old woodcarver character in Disney’s 1940 animated feature film, Pinocchio. Venus was referring to that character’s name here in the conversations.

Players and fans have different opinions on seeing players showing their emotions and smashing the rackets on the court. Venus Williams sees this as a good thing for her when she is making the opponent frustrated.

She reached the French Open final once and the Australian Open final twice. The sisters turned back the clock in the 2017 Australian Open final when they both faced off in a Grand Slam final for the first time after Venus‘ triumph in Wimbledon in 2008. They both have played against each other 31 times and Serena leads the head 2 head 19-12.

Serena also leads the head 2 head in slam matches and slam finals: 11-5 and 7-2, respectively. The duo has played 4 major finals consecutively from the 2002 French Open to the 2003 Australian Open and Serena won all 4.

The Williams sisters have won 22 titles when playing doubles together. This includes 14 majors and 3 Olympic gold medals. Venus Williams is the eldest of the Williams sisters. She made her debut in 1994 at 14 and she hasn’t retired yet from the circuit aged 42.
