Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion had a rocking and sensational start to the year 2022 by winning the singles title at the Australian Open followed by the French Open. He is now the record holder for having the most number of Grand Slam titles to his name with Novak Djokovic just one behind him while Roger Federer is still at 20 as he has not been playing for quite a time.
The Spaniard hit a major roadblock when he was forced to withdraw himself from the Wimbledon Championship just before his semi-final match against Nick Kyrgios due to an abdominal injury he suffered during his quarter-final match against Taylor Fritz. With his walkover, he handed the Aussie player his maiden appearance in a single Grand Slam final. Nadal was about to achieve a calendar Grand Slam but with his withdrawal, it was no more achievable.

Nadal, recently on his social media account, made the confirmation regarding his participation at the Cincinnati Open which starts on 16 August. He captioned his post as ‘Very happy to play again in Cincy. Flying there tomorrow✈️.‘ This will be his first appearance after his exit at the All England Club where he was forced out of injury. He was looking to begin his hard-court season with the Montreal Open but chose to skip it due to his abdominal issue which needed some more time to be recovered completely as per his doctor’s advice. Post his confirmation,it seems Nadal is feeling better as he is quite excited to play as it will be his start for the North American swing.
Nadal is set to make his 13th appearance in Cincinnati where he won the title for the first time after beating John Isner in the finals. His injury kept him out of action for a few weeks which he utilized to get recharged and rejuvenated before the North American swing could begin.
Nadal is set to come back at the Masters 1000 event since the time he last played in the year 2017. Nadal will be looking to add another title to his name at the US Open as Novak Djokovic will certainly not be able to participate owing to his ‘unvaccinated’ status.
