Under one condition, ATP chief Andrea Gaudenzi has stated that the tour would be “happy” to restore ranking points to Wimbledon. In response to the All England Club‘s ban on Russian and Belarusian players due to the situation in Ukraine, the ATP revoked the tournament of its points, but the men’s tour’s chairman said that “none of them” are in favour of the conflict.

After Russians and Belarusians were banned from the competition, the ATP and WTA decided to withdraw ranking points from those competing at Wimbledon this year. Despite the tournament’s record prize pool of £40,350,000 for competitors this year, it essentially becomes an exhibition.

The ATP’s chairman now claims that ranking points can be restored if Wimbledon rolls back its plan to suspend players from the two countries and instead allows them to compete if they sign a statement denouncing the war, which is one of the two options the British government offered the All England Club in regards to Russian and Belarusian athletes.

Andrea Gaudenzi, the ATP’s Chief, recently spoke to the Italian press regarding the situation. He said, “The reason why we removed the points at Wimbledon is known; it is a matter of fairness and discrimination in response to a unilateral decision of the tournament that we do not consider right. Such a decision should have been taken collectively involving all seven components of tennis.”

The ATP chief also stated that if the ban is lifted, they would be pleased to reinstate points. “We would be very happy to return the points to Wimbledon if the ban on Russians and Belarusians, who have said they are willing to make written statements because none of them is in favour of war, were lifted.”
