Belarusian tennis veteran Victoria Azarenka is all confidence as she reached the semifinals at the 2024 Miami Open.
The three-time champion beat Russia’s Yulia Putintseva in the quarterfinals to secure a spot in the last four. The 34-year-old was elated after her win as Azarenka talked about enjoying putting on a show.
The Belarusian beat Putintseva 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals. Azarenka was then asked about her performances in the past at the Miami Open and how she is feeling after making it to another semifinal. The 34-year-old exuberated confidence as she expressed pride at having won three titles.
Azarenka also said that it’s a great feeling for her that her son can go and take pictures of her with the trophy. The Belarusian WTA star then talked about her hunger and motivation to still compete at the highest level.
It’s always gonna stay there in the history books. It’s pretty awesome that my son can go and take pictures of me with the trophy. It’s extra special. I’m just happy that after all these years I’m still excited to put on a show & motivated to compete & go after my dreams. I’ve played on tour for 20 years & I still feel like I’m improving. That’s priceless to me.Victoria Azarenka said after her quarterfinals win at the 2024 Miami Open
Victoria Azarenka eyes a fourth title in Miami
While Victoria Azarenka is proud of her past achievements, the Belarusian ace is going hard for yet another title in Miami. The 34-year-old is getting closer her to dream. With this win in the quarterfinals, Azarenka has set up a clash with World No. 4 Elena Rybakina.
The Kazakh ace is the highest-seeded player left in the tournament with the top three seeds knocked out. Rybakina is also a runner-up as she lost to Petra Kvitova last time around. Now, Azarenka will be hoping to repeat a similar feat when the two players meet in the semifinal.
The Belarusian has form on her side while her opponent struggles to regain her best form. Rybakina is not playing her best tennis, and this can benefit Azarenka. The 34-year-old can push the Kazakh ace to her limits in the semifinal clash. However, it won’t be easy considering Rybakian dominated the head-to-head record.
If Azarenka manages to pull it off somehow, she will be up against either Caroline Garcia or Danielle Collins in the final. This will be yet another herculean task for the Belarusian, who trails 1-3 against Garcia.
