One of the greatest rivals of the Williams sisters, both Serena and Venus, over their illustrious careers has been Belarusian superstar Victoria Azarenka. With some really good matches over the years, the intensity of the rivalry has been really high. However, the respect between the players has been unmatched. The Williams sisters and Azarenka both have a great deal of admiration for each other and rightly so.

Azarenka was recently seen in an interview speaking great words about the two sisters and praising them big time. She was talking to William Hill during a talk with Up Front, where she was asked who is the greatest of all time in women’s tennis. In reply, she had this to say: “They changed the game to become more powerful and athletic. Serena is so mentally strong.”

Their legacy is very strong. I was in the gym with her (Venus) the other day, and it’s quite incredible for me to see.” One can clearly see the admiration the Belarusian has for both American aces. The most important point that Azarenka mentioned in her interview was one about mental strength. It certainly was something that made the sisters stand out.

Victoria Azarenka has had some great battles against both Serena and Venus Williams over the years. However, in her head-to-head with Serena, it’s the American who has a considerable lead and dominates the contest big time. Serena has won 18 out of the 23 matches the two have played against each other. The most recent encounter, though, was won by the Belarusian at the 2020 US Open semifinals.

Azarenka won that match in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Venus Williams and Azarenka have only met on nine occasions, and Venus has dominated that rivalry. The American has won 6 out of the 9 matches. However, again, the most recent contest between the two was won by Azarenka at the 2020 Rome Masters. The Belarusian won that match comfortably in straight sets (7-6, 6-2). All in all, both rivalries have been healthy but also heavily dominated by the American sisters.
