WADA director finally speaks about doping allegations on Rafael Nadal, says wouldn’t need to dope for a tournament he’s won 13 times without injections

Rafael Nadal, WADA director
Rafael Nadal broke his won record of winning 13 French Open titles by adding one more title and became the oldest French Open champion with the victory in 2022. He also defeated world number 1, Novak Djokovic who was the favorite against Nadal in the quarterfinals quite convincingly. He also revealed that he had taken several injections to numb his left foot so that he won’t have any foot pain during the game.
This revelation led to a widespread frenzy on Twitter with many appreciating Nadal even more for his dedication to the sport that he played with a numb foot. Others believed that it was not possible for the injection to just be anesthetic, they said that it was a simple instance of doping and Nadal has used banned substances to win his 14th French Open and his 22nd Grand Slam. Some had even gone on to say that Nadal willing to harm his body for the sake of competition was not a good role model for tennis.
Rafael Nadal gets the support of the WADA director over doping allegations.

Though it was never in question that an athlete like Rafa would ever consider taking a step like the use of banned substances, WADA director Olivier Niggli broke his silence on the doping allegations over Rafael Nadal. He highlighted that anesthetic is not on WADA’s list of banned substances. Talking to the Swiss channel RTS, he said:
“Such injections are not on WADA’s list of banned substances because they are deemed not to improve sports performance and are not harmful. Anesthetic injections are a widespread therapeutic tool that has long been used – both in sports and in other areas. What they are doing is precisely defined in medicine, and their main goal is to reduce pain in a particular part of the body.”
He concluded his statement by saying: “Nadal has won Roland Garros 14 times – he has done it 13 times before without the need for injections, so it is likely that this 14th time he did not win thanks to them.”
