Elina Svitolina, the 2020 Olympics bronze medallist has not played a single match since she announced her pregnancy in May 2022. She last played her match at the Miami Open. She had taken a break due to her back injury but her pregnancy announcement led to an abrupt end to her 2022 campaign. Ahead of the 2023 season, she hinted at a possible comeback to the professional circuit and admitted to getting back in shape.

Svitolina has won 16 singles and 2 doubles titles. Her best performance at majors was in 2019 when she made consecutive semifinal appearances at Wimbledon and US Open. She won the Tour Finals in 2018 and reached a career-high ranking of world no.3 in the year 2017. Being out of action for quite a time, the Ukrainian fell out of the Top 10 rankings.

The Ukrainian player admitted that she missed being a part of the Tour. She went on to claim that she misses the feeling of winning games and felt that victory is addictive which pushes her to keep winning. She further confessed that she is trying her best to get back in the best shape so that she can be back on the WTA Tour at the earliest.

Elina Svitolina raised funds to extend her support due to the war conditions in her home country

Though she has been away from the professional sport, she has been upfront with voicing out her support for her country in the war-like situation between Russia and Ukraine. Along with her foundation called the ‘Elina Svitolina Foundation‘, she has been trying to use the platform to help Ukraine’s darkest days. She has always stated that they have been ignored by fellow players and how her priorities have changed over the course of time due to the war situations in her country.

Through her foundation, the 28-year-old organized a gala dinner to raise funds for her home country. It was reported that a sum of approximately 7 million Ukrainian Hryvnia which was estimated to be around 170,000 euros was collected at the end of the event.

Elina Svitolina went on to state about the recent activities that have disturbed the peace and integrity in Ukraine as hundreds of missiles and drones are being launched constantly. She showcased the disturbing and alarming situation in Ukraine due to the war where there is complete destruction of life and property.
