Emma Raducanu will return to action in the Citi Open which starts in early August ahead of the US Open 2022. She will be looking to defend her title at the US Open but she has been struggling with her form this year due to her injuries. This will be her first match after the exit at Wimbledon and she will be the second seed in the tournament. She faced early exits at all the three Grand Slams of the year.

After making her debut in the WTA rankings in 2021, the 19-year-old Britisher recently made her debut in the Top 10 of the WTA rankings, her career-best ranking of being at the 10th spot. She holds the record for having few major titles played before winning a Grand Slam title. She was awarded the best athlete women’s tennis award at the 2022 ESPY Awards.

“I really like to win. I love the fight”: Emma Raducanu on how she keeps herself inspired and motivated

Emma Raducanu with her parents Ion and Renee

Emma Raducanu, recently in an interview, discussed the support of her mother Renee Zhai, and father Ion Raducanu played a crucial role in keeping her motivated and determined from a young age. She spoke about when her parents did not give her any unrealistic hope, she would be encouraged to prove them wrong. She said “They’ve always had high standards, and told me when things weren’t very good, whereas other people might have wanted to encourage me. My parents always told me how it is, and I always had this sense of wanting to prove them wrong.

The Britisher also spoke about how her parents resorted to different ways to encourage her and did what was best for her. Her mother was always by her side but her dad resorted to different ways to keep her focused. She further added “My mum was always telling me, ‘You can do anything you set your mind to.’ My dad’s method was very different, basically the opposite. He told me that I couldn’t do this and that, and then I wanted to prove him wrong so badly. That’s what made me so ambitious. My mum was always backing me to prove him wrong. That’s how I achieved good results

She is always determined to win and makes sure she does not let anything distract her easily. She further added “Even in primary school, we had a sprint race on sports day and for seven years straight, I won it. I’m undefeated! I really like to win. I love the fight. When things get tough, keep getting yourself back up. Keep persevering. Each time you do, it teaches you a lesson and you accumulate experience. Then you can grow a big bank of knowledge that you can tap into.
