Watch: 12-year-old Carlos Alcaraz reveals his idol’s name! And it’s not Rafael Nadal

Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer

Carlos Alcaraz is no longer a promising teenager looking to make his mark on the tennis world. He has already arrived, and that too in style. He defeated Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, two of the best players in tennis history in the same tournament in consecutive rounds. He didn’t stop there. He got the job done by winning the Madrid Open and becoming the youngest player in history to win the title in Madrid.

He is just 19 and is one of the strongest contenders to win the French Open 2022. Alcaraz is on a tournament-winning spree. He has already won two master’s titles this year, and two ATP 500 events as well. All of these make it almost certain that he will make an appearance at the ATP Finals as well. And he would be another tough hurdle for the players who will be a part of the finals. There are always some sources of inspiration or a measure to scale themselves up to for the young stars, and Alcaraz too has one, and the story is of change, change of idol, and the evolution that came with it.

It is well known that Rafael Nadal is the idol of Carlos Alcaraz, and Alcaraz has followed in the footsteps of Rafa perfectly. But, a newly surfaced video reveals that a 12-year-old Alcaraz had a different idol than he has now. He idolized Roger Federer, another giant in the world of tennis. Alcaraz’s technique looks like he has got the best of both Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer; he also has some space for some of Novak Djokovic’s magic as well.

In short, it feels like Alcaraz is the perfect mix of the big three, and he would go on to win as many Grand Slams as they have won, if not more. Carlos Alcaraz is the young blood, and he is there to stay. He is the torchbearer of Spanish tennis and a true heir to Rafa Nadal. He will look forward to carrying the legacy to glories heights.

After some back-to-back tournaments, Alcaraz withdrew from the Italian Open 2022 to recuperate and get refreshed for the upcoming war on the French clay.
