Aryna Sabalenka defeated Elena Rybakina to win her maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. The victory was a big moment for the Belarusian player, who seems to have finally reached her potential. Her joy with the win was clear to see as she released a TikTok showing her celebrating with her team.
Sabalenka recreated the famous Kanye West speech from the Grammy awards. In the speech, West says, “Everyone wanted to know what I would do if I didn’t win…… I guess we’ll never know.” He then hoists his Grammy award in the air. Sabalenka did the same. Initially, the video shows just her lip-syncing with the audio from the Grammy speech. She then pans the camera to show the trophy and her team celebrating behind it as the “I guess we’ll never know” part comes on.
The team’s joy is evident as they jump around in celebration. Sabalenka has played brilliantly to win the Australian Open title. She defeated every challenger in her path as she won the tournament losing just one set. That set came in the final against Elena Rybakina. The match started badly for Sabalenka as she lost the set 6-4. But she showed remarkable resilience and quality to bounce back.
Sabalenka played brilliantly to win the second set 6-3. The final set bought added pressure for both players as it was the decider. But Sabalenka matched anything Rybakina threw at her. She broke at 3-3 and then held on to win the set 6-4 on her fourth championship point. She summed up her mentality afterward, “I kept telling myself: ‘Nobody tells you that it’s going to be easy, you just have to work for it, work for it till the last point.’”
Aryna Sabalenka celebrates in style with champagne
Sabalenka also celebrated more formally after her Australian Open win. She popped champagne in at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne.
Dressed in a glamourous pink dress, she is seen spraying champagne on the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup. After the champagne spraying, she says to the onlookers, “It was a good one right.”
The world’s media photographed Sabalenka at the iconic location. She also gave soundbites to journalists who asked her about the feeling of winning a Grand Slam tournament.
