WATCH: Benoit Paire’s disrespectful retaliation to booing from fans after his first round exit at the Estoril Open

Benoit Paire

French tennis player Benoit Paire‘s rough patch in 2022 continues as he bows out of th Estoril Open after losing in the opening round against South Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo. The 32-year-old Frenchman lost the match 4-6, 5-7 despite having several chances of wrapping up the match. This was Paire’s fourth consecutive opening round defeat and frustration is gradually seeping in for the Frenchman who simply cannot find a way to win.

Paire lost the opening round in Barcelona to the same Kwon Soon-woo in straight sets and now to lose again in Estoril must be very frustrating for the former World No.18. Unlike in Barcelona, Paire had four chances to seal the second set and force the decider but Soon-woo won all the points to make a strong return into the second set and ultimately wrapped it up with relative ease. Paire failed to convert a single break point out of the 13 he had and for someone of his calibre, this is a major concern.

While the Frenchman struggled to conquer his demons, the crowd in Estoril did not come to his aid. They booed him and that made the 32-year-old even more agitated. The boos went on for the last ten minutes of the game as the result was getting more and more inevitable. In the end responding to the constant booing Paire lowered his shorts as a sign of disrespect to the fans.

Benoit Paire’s reaction after his defeat against Kwon Soon-woo has gone viral and it is all over the internet. This was the French player’s 12th loss of the season and there are plenty of reasons to be frustrated but his reaction to the booing was a little stretch as most players would have hardly paid any attention to what the people are saying about them.

Paire showed tremendous fight at the Australian Open as he won two three setters in the first two rounds defeating Thiago Monteiro and Grigor Dimitrov before he was beaten by Stefanos Tsitsipas. But since then he has struggled majorly to win matches. he lost out in the opening rounds quite a few times, even against opponents he is expected to win. He had a dismal run all through the hardcourt season as he bowed out in the first round in both, Indian Wells and Miami. He has now continued that poor run to the clay courts with first round defeats in Monaco, Barcelona and now in Estoril.

Paire after his loss shared an Instagram post revealing how disappointed he is with all the negativity that is coming his way from all these consecutive defeats. he also shared some screenshots of abuses from people on social media. “I’m looking for solutions every day to change this spiral, I make the effort and I progress despite the defeats.. I’m just going to think about what’s next and hang on again and again like I’ve been doing for a while,” the World No.60 wrote on Instagram.

If reports are to be believed then these are people who placed a bet on Benoit Paire and with him losing the first-round clash at the Estoril Open these people have lost quite a sum and hence they are letting it all out on the Frenchman.
