Botic van de Zandschulp is a pretty calm and composed personality on the court. However, the Dutch tennis player was certainly not pleased with his performance in the final set of the Munich Open final against Holger Rune. After losing the first set, Botic van de Zandschulp won seven straight games, and was up a break in the final set.

However, Holger Rune produced a sensational comeback, and defended his title in Munich. The Norwegian prodigy saved four match points, before he forced the match into the final set tiebreaker. The Dutchman was frustrated after his heartbreaking loss, and smashed his racket in anger.

Botic van de Zandschulp had a terrific run at the Munich Open, as he almost managed to claim the title on Sunday. In lead up to the final, the 27-year-old won all three matches in straight sets, which includes a victory over Taylor Fritz in the semifinals.

Holger Rune revealed after the match that he was not at his 100%. The Norwegian was a victim of a heartbreaking loss last weekend, where he lost to Andrey Rublev in the finals of the Monte Carlo Masters. This came after he was up 5-1 in the final set.

Holger Rune became the first player to defend his title in this calendar year. The youngster revealed that he has played a lot of tennis over the past two weeks, which was a reason for his fatigue in Sunday’s final. He stated that he pushed himself through the pain barrier, and went the extra mile since it was the final.

Holger Rune also sympathized with runner-up Botic van de Zandschulp, stating that he was in a similar situation last week. It will be interesting to see if the Norwegian decides to compete at the Madrid Open, where he is seeded sixth. Given his physical condition, a withdrawal is certainly on the cards.
