Top seed at the Queen’s Club, Carlos Alcaraz produced magic against Sebastian Korda in the semi-finals of the 2023 Cinch Championships. The World No. 2 has also silenced many of his doubters with concerns regarding his form on grass. The 20-year-old had not shown much consistency on the surface but is now in the finals of the ATP-500 event.
During the fourth game of the second set, Alcaraz was a point away from holding his serve when Korda skied a ball. The Spaniard found himself ahead of the ball and had to rush behind to return. In the process, he looped the ball single-handedly from his right hand but could not apply brakes timely, almost crashing into the wall at the back.
As he continued to see the ball’s trajectory, he stood behind the ball kid and line officials as Korda waited for the bounce to fire a drop shot. The decision, despite being correct, was of no use as the American’s shot crashed straight into the net as Alcaraz won the point and the game to split the second set 2-2.
Alcaraz would go on to win the second set 6-4 to win the match 6-3, 6-4. As a result, he reaches the finals at the prestigious event in London, looking for his maiden title on grass. Alcaraz will now play in his sixth final of the season in his ninth tournament appearance with a win-loss record of 39-4.

A fiery clash for Carlos Alcaraz awaits in the Queen’s Club final
With one win away from his first Grass title, Carlos Alcaraz still has a big challenge in front of him. The 20-year-old will now take on seventh-seeded Alex de Minaur. The Aussie defeated second-seeded Holger Rune earlier in the day, knocking out the Dane 6-3, 7-6(2). Unlike Alcaraz, de Minaur has a trophy won on Grass.
The 24-year-old won his only grass title at the 2021 Eastbourne International. In 2023, he will have already won one title, the ATP-500 event in Mexico, beating Tommy Paul in the finals. As for Alcaraz, his trophy cabinet this year has been quite diverse. His four titles this year include two ATP-1000 titles won in Miami and Madrid, the ATP-500 event in Barcelona, and the ATP-250 title in Argentina.
Both players have dropped only one set so far this week in London. This will be the second meeting between the two, with the first one going Alcaraz’s way in the 2022 Barcelona Open.
