Coco Gauff continues her emphatic run at the 2024 Australian Open. The reigning Grand Slam winner has made the most of her hardcourt prowess to cruise into the fourth round at the ongoing Major. Up against compatriot Alycia Parks, Gauff made easy work to have a short and sweet day in the office.

Gauff served out the game in the second set and despite holding three match points, she lost two of them before emerging victorious. Despite a dominating win, Gauff kept her celebrations subdued and rather showed respect to Parks at the net.

As the duo exchanged a hug at the net, Gauff yet again won the show with her message to Parks.

Next time we play in the final,

as Parks gave out a small chuckle as the two players moved to exchange handshakes with the chair umpire.

The current US Open champ won the match 6-0, 6-2 in a mere 61 minutes in the final singles match of the day session at the Margaret Court Arena. The all-American clash between the two youngsters was expected to be a fine battle. Instead turned out to be just another ‘Coco show’. The teen makes it to the fourth round for the third time in four years and will count on her form to reach the quarter-finals.

Coco Gauff claims the score doesn’t justify Alycia Parks’ performance

Following her victory, Gauff was at her usual best for the on-court interview. She defended Parks’ performance despite the teenager winning the match in a one-sided affair that included a first-set bagel as well.

Speaking during the on-court interview, Gauff said,

I’m really happy with how I played. The score says different. She’s a tough player. She hits the ball big. I’ve known her since I was like 8 years old. Our first time ever playing juniors or pros. Hopefully we can have many more matches in the future.
Gauff’s comments from her on-court interview.

While Gauff was courteous enough towards Parks, the post-match statistics were certainly worrying for the World No. 82. Parks made 8 double faults to Gauff’s 3 while also making 34 unforced errors to Gauff’s 8. Coming to breakpoints, Parks couldn’t create a single chance to break and also failed to defend any one of the 5 chances that Gauff had on offer.

To her credit, she hit 11 winners in comparison to the teenager’s 4, yet it was the fourth seed who advances with 56 points to her name while Parks bowed out with 29 to her credit.

With a hattrick of straight-set wins, the American pride will now take on Magdalena Frech in the quarter-finals. The Pole had earlier defeated Anastasia Zakharova in three sets to make the fourth round in Melbourne for the first time in her career.
