Roger Federer, the former world number one is hailed as one of the greatest players of all time and has etched his name in the history of elites with his 103 ATP titles including the 20 Grand Slam singles titles. He retired from the professional world of tennis at the Laver Cup where he lost his final doubles match along with Rafael Nadal against Team World’s Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock.
Daniil Medvedev, the former world number one from Russia and the 2021 US Open champion heaped praises on the Swiss maestro recalling the times he had played against Federer even though he couldn’t win any one of them. Medvedev reveals that “It was like a dream come true when I played against him for the first time. Every time he is somewhere around the court, it’s something very special.“
Matteo Berrettini who truly admires Federer since childhood and had even credited him as the reason behind becoming a tennis player also talked about the legacy of Federer and acknowledged his special qualities. He states that “Roger is very smooth while playing. You can see that he loves to play tennis that’s one of the reasons why he is still playing after his forties.“
Grigor Dimitrov also joined in to praise Federer and talked about the fighting spirit that separates him from the rest. He said that “He changes completely from one point to the other. One of his strongest quality, I think, on the court is to be able to really like dust himself off after a tough point or a match or a set and get right back at it.“

Federer‘s contribution to the sport has been exemplary and has left many people around the world inspired by his journey from a ball boy in Swiss Basel Indoors to becoming one of the legends of the sport which is a true example of patience, hard work, and perseverance. He was ranked among the top eight players in the world continuously for 14 years and two weeks.
He was the first player in the Open era to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles but at the end of his career, he was surpassed by Rafael Nadal with 22 singles major titles and Novak Djokovic with 21 singles major titles. He is the first one out of the Big 3 to have stepped out from the sport but he wishes to play tennis whenever possible but no more as a Pro.
