Serena Williams, undoubtedly one of the greatest female athletes around the world, registered a spectacular win defeating the world number two Anett Kontaveit in the second round at the 2022 US Open in three sets 7-6(4),2-6,6-2. The former world number one shook the world when she dropped the retirement bomb in an interview with Vogue magazine revealing that she will likely play to play her final innings in New York ending her career that lasted over two decades. The retirement news lead to the fast selling of the US Open tickets where fans dropped in huge numbers to see the six-time US Open champion for the very last time.
She had returned to the grasscourt season after a gap of one year after being back from an injury and had managed to win only one out of the four matches since her comeback. Her form was a major concern for her but she defied all odds and started her final innings by registering two back-to-back wins. The 23-time singles Grand Slam champion will be looking on ending her career on an endearing note with high chances of winning the title as she is looking quite confident with her form.

LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers American basketball legend, hailed Serena Williams on successfully advancing into the third round at the US Open as she handed a great upset to the world’s number two seed. He could contain his excitement and made a hilarious tribute to Serena by making noises like a ‘goat’. He was watching the match and showered his love for his fellow American legend by posting a video story on his social media account on Instagram after she won the second round at Arthur Ashe stadium. The video story was captioned as “@serenawilliams, keep going!”
LeBron James even went on to call Serena as the GOAT and cheered her to keep going with her great performances. He even said “GOAT talk! I see you, Serena.” Serena will face up against Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round at the US Open where she will be looking to continue her winning streak. Apart from her singles match, she will play in the doubles category with her sister Venus Williams after they both received a wild-card entry and will play their first-round match against the Czech pair Linda Noskova and Lucie Hradecka.
