WATCH: “How many names can you mispronounce challenge” A hilarious mispronunciation of Rafael Nadal, Casper Ruud, and Marin Cilic’s names by LA Sportscaster
Casper Ruud(L), Rafael Nadal(R)
Rafael Nadal made it to his fourteenth final at the French Open, after Alexander Zverev retired during the match due to a serious ankle injury. Nadal toiled hard in the first set and saved 4 set points to turn the set around. During the second set, the tiebreak for the set was about to begin, but Sasha rolled his ankle running and fell down howling in pain. He was taken on the wheelchair and he later returned on crutches to forfeit the match. This unfortunate end to the semifinal gave Rafa a shot at his fourteenth French Open title.
On the other side of the draw, it was Casper Ruud vs Marin Cilic, the first time semifinalists in the French Open. Ruud beat Cilic 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 to become the first Norwegian into the final of a Grand Slam. Though Cilic started that match playing very aggressively, Ruud was very erroneous in the first set. The Norwegian was able to hit the reset button and start playing better with every point.
The finalists Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud will play each other for the first time on the ATP tour, in the French Open final. Though Ruud and Nadal have been sparring buddies at the Rafael Nadal Academy, they will be down chasing history at Phillipe-Chatrier on Sunday.
