8th seeded American Jessica Pegula crashed out of the US Open quarterfinal to World No.1 Iga Swiatek on Wednesday night in straight sets 3-6,6-7(4). Pegula was one of the best players in the tournament and was projected to go even deeper but to her misery, she was once again drawn against a World No.1.

She had a very good build-up to the US Open and was looking very good all week at the US Open. She had dropped just one set before meeting Swiatek but against the Pole, her level of tennis was abysmal. She wasn’t able to serve well at all and her shot selection was beyond anyone’s imagination. Maybe it was the home pressure of her past results against Swiatek, Pegula never got going.

In the post-match press conference, she expressed her frustration and sadness in losing in the quarters once again. “Sorry, but it sucks. It sucks. I wish I could have done it here at my home Slam. I wish I didn’t have to play Iga every QF or Ash, which seem to be the two people that don’t really lose that often. I don’t know. I’m a little deflated right now,“ she said.

The sadness after a tough loss was visible on Jessica Pegula’s face during the press conference. While listening to the reporters’ questions, she sipped beer and looked a bit relaxed. When confronted, Pegula said that the peer will help her pee for the dope test and also reduces the pain of her loss. “I’m trying to pee for doping… although it does help ease the loss!” she said.

Fans were ecstatic to see Pegula relax after a heartbreaking loss and took to social media to share her thoughts.
