During this purple patch of his career, Nick has been dealing with a lot of personal issues which he has kept under the wraps for the press. However, after his win over Medvedev, Kyrgios did not hold back further and dedicated his win to his mother Norlaila who is sick and undergoing treatment in Australia while Nick is sweating it out on the court. Kyrgios wrote on the camera lens, “Be strong Ma,” adding a small heart next to the text.

Nick’s mother is suffering from a kidney ailment and the condition of her own kidneys is not good and requires a donor. As per Sydney Morning Herald, Nick’s father George has volunteered to donate one of his kidneys but the procedure is yet to be completed. Nick had talked about the difficulty of travelling on the Tour constantly when a player is undergoing issues of this calibre in their personal life and had asked the media to cut him some slack.

“It’s hard to be away from Australia now. My mum is in hospital, my dad hasn’t been very well. People only see me winning, losing, and throwing a racket. They do not really understand the challenges that we players face in our personal lives,” said Kyrgios. With a busy month till the US Open concludes, Nick might not be able to travel back to Australia but it won’t be a surprise that he takes the first flight back home once he is done with the final Grand Slam of the season.
