Novak Djokovic won his second consecutive ATP title at the 2022 Astana Open defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets 6-3,6-4. He has dropped only a single set on the way to the finals which came in the semi-finals clash despite receiving a walkover by Daniil Medvedev as he retired due to an injury.

Djokovic congratulates Tsitsipas for putting up a great fight and wished him luck for a great future ahead and even appreciated the behavior and attitude of Tsitsipas even in defeats. Djokovic spoke highly to motivate the Greek and even appreciated his team’s efforts and support but hilariously ended by saying “All the best for your future except when you play against me.”

Djokovic said “Stefanos, Thank you for your compliment and kind words. You’ve always been humble in victory and gracious and respectful in your defeats. I’m sure in the future you gonna have a lot of victories. You’re still young and you’re a great player.

Novak Djokovic won his 90th ATP title at the Astana Open

It was his 90th ATP title win and his fourth title of the year including his victory at the Wimbledon Championship where he remains undefeated since four years. Since his comeback on the Tour after receiving a ban during the North American swing, he is on another level with his flawless performances. He remains undefeated on the Tour since his 21st Grand Slam singles title win at Wimbledon.

Djokovic had been playing altogether on a different level as he won the Tel Aviv Open for the first time defeating Marin Cilic in straight sets. Djokovic had already defeated Tsitsipas once in the year to click his 38th Masters’ title and sixth Italian Open title. With his back-to-back wins, he qualifies for the Nitto ATP Finals.

Novak Djokovic had a late start to the year and had been facing a lot of hurdles on the professional front since the start of the year due to which he couldn’t play during the Australian Open and even couldn’t participate at the North American swing due to his unvaccinated status. Due to his absence from the Tour, he had a substantial drop in his rankings and fell out of the Top 5 but is slowly gaining some crucial points to better his rankings before the end of the year.
